INTERPRETING

I provide simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting between Spanish and English in a variety of legal settings. As a federally certified court interpreter (Spanish/English), I hold the highest level of court interpreter certification available in the United States.

I am certified to interpret between Spanish and English in any United States federal court, which is where you will typically find me several times a week. I have interpreted at trials, evidentiary hearings, and other proceedings covering a variety of criminal subject matters ranging from retail theft to murder, human rights violations, identity theft, hate crimes, and drug trafficking.

Based near Salt Lake City, Utah, I am happy to travel to any U.S. District Court (or other venue) nationwide – or to simply log on to Zoom or a similar platform to provide remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI).

In fact, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have gained considerable experience in providing remote simultaneous interpreting (RSI), video remote interpreting (VRI), and over-the-phone interpreting (OPI) using both the simultaneous and the consecutive modes. I have provided such services for court hearings, as well as for several conferences and meetings. In addition, I have recently taken several courses on remote interpreting to ensure that I am current in this emerging area with the interpreting profession.

My equipment includes the following:

  • High-speed (up to 1 gbs) Internet connection

  • Two computers, one serving as a backup

  • Professional USB headset with noise-canceling microphone and acoustic shock protection

I am available to interpret in the following settings:

  • Court hearings/jury trials (criminal cases only)

    • Note: For criminal in-court proceedings, interpreters are typically provided by the court. As a court interpreter, I am required by the interpreters’ code of ethics to maintain strict impartiality.

  • Witness testimony (Grand jury indictments, depositions, etc.)

  • Attorney-client meetings

  • Other legal settings

  • Conference interpreting

  • Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI)

  • Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)

  • Over-the-phone Interpreting (OPI)
